Accumulation, translocation, and toxicity of arsenic in barley grown in contaminated soil

چکیده

Arsenic is a nonessential element for plants; however, high levels of As can inhibit plant growth. The toxicity influenced mainly by its speciation in soil. objectives the present study were to determine fractional composition soil, accumulation plants, and potentially toxic effects on morphological, anatomical, ultrastructural levels. In model experiment, barley (Hordeum sativum L.) was planted Haplic Chernozem spiked with three different concentrations (20, 50 100 mg/kg). fraction experimental soil analysed using method sequential fractionation. phytotoxic microscopically at tissue, cellular, intracellular Analysis revealed higher amount mobile forms that contaminated generative organs plants. Oxides Fe, Al, Mn became main components retain when contamination increased. inhibited growth affecting morphological parameters (shape, size, colour). It caused impairment root cells reduction size chlorophyllic parenchyma leaves. analysis found changes cellular organelles (chloroplasts, mitochondria, peroxisomes). bioconcentration factor (BCF), bioaccumulation (BF-soluble), translocation (TF) allowed evaluation protection mechanisms determination hazardous Despite buffering capacity concentration affected H. sativum.

Arsenic Accumulation and Translocation in Mangrove (Aegiceras corniculatum L.) Grown in Arsenic Contaminated Soils

Mangrove wetlands serve as both a sink and source for arsenic (As), as mangrove plants are able to uptake and accumulate As. The present study used pot experiments to evaluate As accumulation and translocation in mangrove (Aegiceras corniculatum L.) seedlings grown in As contaminated soils. Results indicated that A. corniculatum seedlings grew normally under As stress with minute growth inhibit...

Arsenic, lead and nickel accumulation in Rubus ulmifolius growing in contaminated soil in Portugal.

This work investigates the potential of Rubus ulmifolius, indigenous to a metal contaminated site--Esteiro de Estarreja--for phytoremediation purposes. The site has a long history of metal contamination. The accumulation of lead (Pb), arsenic (As) and nickel (Ni) in different sections--roots, stems and leaves - of the plant was assessed and compared to the levels of those metals in the soil and...

Accumulation of heavy metals and antioxidant responses in Vicia faba plants grown on monometallic contaminated soil

The purpose of this study was to explore the effects of soil contamination by selected metals (cadmium, copper, nickel, lead or zinc) on the antioxidant response of Vicia faba plants. The levels of the antioxidants: glutathione, proline, non-protein thiols, as well as guaiacol peroxidase and catalase activities were measured in the upper parts of plants. Additionally, the potential bioavailabil...

Solanum nigrum grown in contaminated soil: effect of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi on zinc accumulation and histolocalisation.

Zn tissue accumulation in Solanum nigrum grown in a non-contaminated and a naturally contaminated Zn matrix and the effect of inoculation with different arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) on metal uptake were assessed. S. nigrum grown in the contaminated soil always presented higher Zn accumulation in the tissues, accumulating up to 1622 mg Zn kg(-1). The presence of both Glomus claroideum and ...

Accumulation and translocation of heavy metals in soil and plants from fly ash contaminated area.

The present investigation deals with the accumulation of heavy metals in fields contaminated with fly ash from a thermal power plant and subsequent uptake in different parts of naturally grown plants. Results revealed that in the contaminated site, the mean level of all the metals (Cd, Zn, Cr, Pb, Cu, Ni, Mn and Fe) in soil and different parts (root and shoots) of plant species were found to be...
